Dan Cohen’s Digital Humanities Blog » Blog Archive » Introducing Omeka
For Zotero, it’s “like iTunes for your references and research”; for Omeka, think “WordPress for your exhibits and collections.”

THATPodcast » Blog Archive » Episode 2: Introducing Omeka
This is an absolutely fascinating podcast about the new site builder for the “digital humanist” called “Omeka”.
It is one of the most exciting projects I have ever seen and could potentially involve every aspect of the university, revolutionizing the way the humanities is presented.

The Social Customer Manifesto: Future of Talent
Seth Godin has a strong piece up today on the mindset shift taking place in the “human resources” functions of large organizations. Seth:
“Like it or not, in most organizations HR has grown up with a forms/clerical/factory focus. Which was fine, I guess, unless your goal was to do something amazing, something that had nothing to do with a factory, something that required amazing programmers, remarkable marketers or insanely talented strategy people.
So, here’s my small suggestion, one that will make some uncomfortable.
Change the department name to Talent.”
Relating this to our Spring Conference, perhaps we should be celebrating our technical talents and putting them on careful display so that others may see and seek to do as well. Just a thought.

Second Life Communivations and Sales Simulation
Our communication / sales simulation is the first and the only commercially available simulation that allows trainee to get experience by practicing communications with the robotic avatars in a virtual environment closely resembling real life.
What if you wanted to create “poet” avatars to converse with your online students? Or perhaps poem avatars that students could question? Intriguing is too mild a word to describe the tingle such a tool provides. Even better what if there was a way for students to create avatars of their own from their own poems? I hope this company expands and makes such a dream do-able

Using Student Podcasts in Literature Classes | Academic Commons
Yes, podcasts are all the rage, but mustn’t they serve a purpose first and musn’t that purpose make your work better and easier in the longer term? In the parlance of the day,
“Absolutely!” For the tech skeptic Academic Commons is just the place to check. Every piece of technology has been used in the classroom so it is easier to judge whether or not it will work for your particular and peculiar circumstances.
Here are a few more that might prove useful.

NINES and Collex
This project draws together various sources (primary and secondary) into one handy scholarly place for all students of literature to examine. This site specializes in nineteenth century writers but the software that runs it, Collex, can be used to create any collection. This freeware appears to
1. Work within any browser
2. Use no plugins so is self-contained
3. Be free and busy with developers working to improve it.
Here are a few collections to check out.
The William Blake Archive
Collective Biographies of Women
The Letters of Christina Rossetti
