Hardin reappointed to Oral History Commission

April 30th, 2008

Dr. John A. Hardin, a professor in WKU’s Department of History, has been reappointed to the Kentucky Oral History Commission by Gov. Steve Beshear.

Dr. Hardin’s term will expire on Feb. 15, 2012. He received his master’s from Fisk University in Nashville and his doctorate from the University of Michigan.

The Kentucky Oral History Commission consists of 12 members, 10 of whom are appointed by the governor. It is a nationally recognized program with a collection of more than 25,000 oral history interviews and was created to preserve the legacy of Kentuckians. From tenant farmers and lay midwives to political leaders and nationally acclaimed authors, the commission reaches across the state to record the diverse stories that are a part of Kentucky’s rich and colorful history.

A grant program provides financial and technical assistance to academic and community oral historians. The commission also offers workshops, sponsors state conferences and participates in collaborative projects with other agencies and institutions.
